Monday 29th August 2016.
Yet another unique event at the Gartell Light Railway!
Three engines in steam !!
A brand new steam loco makes its debut appearance....
The Gartell Light Railway is pleased to host the debut appearance of a brand new steam locomotive.
Visiting the GLR from its Devon home the new locomotive, which was built by John Uphill to a similar design to the 2 other GLR steam locomotives, will be officially named on Monday 29th August. Details of the locomotive's new name are a closely guarded secret - even the GLR's loyal volunteers don't know what the name will be!
The loco is expected to visit other narrow gauge lines but it is hoped that it will become a frequent attraction at the GLR. The loco will also be exhibited at the Berwick St.John Country Fayre on the 17/18th September and also at the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway's Autumn gala on the 24/25th September. Constructed over a 17 (!) year period, the green liveried locomotive complements nicely the GLR's 2 steam locos - No.9 'Mr. G' and No,6 'Jean'.
The GLR will operate its normal '3 train' intensive service (subject to availability) on Bank Holiday Monday to give passengers a choice of which steam loco to travel behind. This intensive steam hauled service will be the first occasion of its kind in the 25 year history of the Gartell Light Railway.
