Our steam locomotives
No. 6 - 'Mr G' It entered service in June 1998 and is named after John Gartell’s late father, Alan Gartell, who was affectionately known by the railway’s volunteer workforce as “Mr G”. 'Mr G' is one of the main locomotives used on open days and has become a very popular member of the GLR locomotive fleet. |
No. 9 - 'Jean' 'Jean' is an 0-4-0 tender tank engine and is the GLR's second steam locomotive. 'Jean' is very similar in design to No. 6 'Mr G' however she has some subtle differences including a longer footplate and a tender for increased coal and water carrying. 'Jean' was built at the builders' home and completed in the GLR's workshops. 'Jean' entered service in 2009 and together with 'Mr G' always prove very popular with our younger visitors when pulling trains on the GLR's open days. |
