Food and drink in the 'Pines' Buffet.
Visiting the Gartell Light Railway can whet your appetite for food and drink!

Our volunteer catering team in the 'Pines' Buffet pride themselves in offering a wide range of tasty hot and cold fare to suit most tastes and budgets. From simple sandwiches and cakes (for that last minute picnic!) to a hot meal - all with a range of hot and cold drinks - our aim tis to keep you 'fed and watered' during your visit.  For our early visitors, our breakfasts and bacon rolls are always in high demand. Hot dogs or burgers followed by a ice cream will feed those hungry children whilst Mum and Dad can enjoy a more substantial light meal. Afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes are always enjoyed by our afternoon visitors!

Sadly, our trains do not have on-board catering facilities but you can either enjoy your purchased refreshments in the 'Pines' Buffet at Common Lane station, sit outside and watch the trains at Common Lane station or enjoy your own picnic on our grassed picnic areas.

Where possible, we always source our products from local suppliers thus helping to support the local Somerset & Dorset economy.

Our popular 'Pines Buffet' is always grateful for volunteers to help out in the buffet on our popular open days - Please contact the GLR if you'd like to help us!

Souvenir shopping in the GLR shop.

Our re-vamped and well stocked shop offers a range of railway themed gifts, toys, model railway equipment and unique souvenirs of your visit.

The GLR currently welcomes donations of 'used' railway books for subsequent sale in our shop to help offset the railways increasing operating costs.

Our  GLR guide book - 'The Gartell Light Railway ..the story so far' makes an ideal memento of your visit.

All our operations, catering and retail teams are local friendly volunteers and so have lots of local knowledge to help make your visit to the GLR an enjoyable occasion.

A GLR best seller!

A 'must have' for all GLR aficionados - This full colour soft back cover book details the history of the GLR  from its early days right up to the present day. It contains details of the locomotive fleet (past and present) and all the current GLR rolling stock together with details of the signalling equipment. Owner of the GLR, John Gartell, has written the foreword to this 34 page book which was written by a local GLR volunteer, Garry Shaftoe. The numerous detailed photographs - some dating back to 1984 and before the railway was open to the public  - were all taken by GLR volunteers and detail the story of the GLR.

Attractively priced at just £10.00 from the GLR shop (or £11.50 via mail order from the GLR) this book is a best seller at the GLR. Get your copy now!
